Cadillac Eldorado, 1967
The 1967 Cadillac Eldorado was probably Cadillac’s most significant
addition in the 1960's. The front wheel drive hardtop (no convertible was
available) was based on the new Oldsmobile Toronado
that made its first appearance in 1966. The concept actually originated
with the XP-727 program of 1959, with the notion of front-wheel drive
coming to the fore 3 years later in 1962. Management originally
considered calling the car LaSalle, after the junior Cadillac of the
prewar years, but settled on the current model name of Eldorado.
